Sophomores, Juniors, and teachers gathered around on September 23, 2025, to celebrate their accomplishments from last year. The award ceremony was to celebrate student and teacher achievements. for their graduation regalia.
“It was to honor those students that earned an A honor roll or an AB honor roll for their freshman and or sophomore year.” explained Ms. Duncan, Principal at Memorial Early College High School. “Any participant at the state level, so as robotics. So those who were on the team that went to that state competition were recognized.”
Last year, the awards ceremony was unexpectedly cancelled, so the ceremony was highly anticipated for students who were supposed to be given an award last year. Some students say that they were surprised to be presented with a cord when all they were expected to receive was a certificate that shows that their hard work was recognized. “It was cool just knowing everything that I achieved last year, let me get that award.” said Sophomore Rudy Velasquez about the event.
That feeling of being accomplished and winning an achievement because you worked hard is what this is all about. This ceremony is for the students at MECHS to know that every mountain they climb is accounted for and that we see their hard work and dedication they’ve put into being a successful person. If you’re a freshman here at Mechs, you should make it your goal to achieve this award.
MECHS is not an easy-paced school, and it only goes up from here. Whatever work you put in will be noticed. “My advice would be to not procrastinate because a lot will mount on you if you do procrastinate.” said Sophomore Kayli-Ann Hernandez about future Freshman trying to make it to next year’s award ceremony. MECHS is a school where a lot is asked of you. But if you can be there, do the work, and want to be successful, you will achieve great things.
And for teachers there is so much expected of you and it’s so incredibly important that we honor the hard work teachers put in to better the lives of students. Mrs. Montgomery won Teacher of the Year last year and was awarded this ceremony and her highly talked about speech was one no one at MECHS will ever forget. In her Avengers’ themed speech Mrs. Montgomery says “The main theme of my speech was that while academic success is important, everyone has something amazing to offer the world. I love the Avengers, so I incorporated the Avengers into my speech as examples.” Mrs. Montgomery’s speech was all about how no matter what our strengths and weaknesses are, we are important. Mrs. Montgomery brought out that no matter who you are whether that’s strong and daring like the Hulk or Awkward and humorous like Antman you play a special part here at MECHS.”
As we celebrate all that you’ve accomplished, remember this: the world doesn’t just need your GPA—it needs your strengths, your gifts, and your voice. And just like the Avengers… when we put them all together, there’s nothing we can’t face.” Mrs. Montgomery ends her inspiring speech with something none of the students at MECHS should ever forget. You are more than just your GPA. So freshmen continue to be yourself and work hard so that you too can celebrate your accomplishments.
